Summary of Reunion Committee as of October 10, 2005

Class Donation Fund to SMHS

Of the list of "needs" given to Dorothe Cox by the high school:

  • The new Stadium/Track and PE equipment is being handled by the Athletics Foundation (our gift would go in to the overall pot to pay for the work already completed or scheduled to be completed soon)
  • Funds for the Science and Computer Labs are being raised by the Parent-Teachers Organization (once again our contribution would go in to the pot and be unrecognized)
  • The Art Department is getting support from the Patron of the Arts Society (no special recognition there)
  • The Library furniture (or at least most of it) was donated by the Class of 2005, but there was nothing left for the Archives.
  • Soooo... The Class of 1955 will donate their funds for the purpose of restoration, preservation and display of the memorabilia that has been collected/saved over the last 10 decades. A plaque will be placed above the entrance to the Alumni Area with something similar to "Alumni Archives - Preserving the Past for the Future, Donated by SMHS Class of 1955". The display cases will also bear brass tags that read "Donated by Class of 1955". Restoration must be done professionally to preserve the printed documents and photos that have not been treated to date and will soon decay or fade by exposure to the elements. Displays in the cases will be changed periodically to reflect the campus life during the various decades by exhibiting memorabilia from that era.

Our Goal is $5,500

Dorothe Cox reports:   As of 10/08/05 we have raised $2,610. We will use the refund from Hiller Aviation Museum for doing our own clean-up (thanks all those that stayed and helped) of $500. This leaves approximately $2,390 to be raised by next Saturday - October 15th. The Class General Account stands at approximately $2,200, but we do need to retain $250 to keep the web site going for 5 years and $600 to keep the Class Bank Account open. We have outstanding bills of $506. That leaves approximately $1,856 that we need from other sources to fulfill our goal. I am working on a possible solution - short term; I may be able to "borrow" the money to donate on October 15th against donation pledges that will come in later. This is an interest free loan for 6 months. To all those who have not gotten around to sending in your donations, PLEASE E-MAIL ME THE AMOUNT YOU WILL BE DONATING AND I WILL ADD IT TO THE TOTAL ALREADY ON HAND. I need to know BEFORE FRIDAY, OCT. 14th.
Thank you for your cooperation and generous contributions."

Check Presentation

The School District will not allow Dorothe Cox to present the check during the official Dedication Ceremony because there are too many groups who have donated funds (large sums) to the new campus and it would take to long for all of them to be called upon during the ceremony. Therefore, our contribution will be presented at the next School Board meeting on October 27, 2005. If anyone would like to attend, let Dorothe Cox know and she will send you the details.

That's all for now... Stay Tuned!
