Summary of Reunion Committee as of July 22, 2009

The 55th Committee

Survey Sent out Early April, 2009

In order to find out the possible number of attendees to a 55th reunion, we sent out a questionnaire early in April 2009.   The questionnaire asked how many classmates and their guests might attend a reunion in late September or early October, if they would attend a dinner and/or brunch and if they needed a hotel room.

We have 284 classmates with valid contact information.   The survey resulted in 114 replies from both US mail and E-Mail with 19 of those replies indicating that they likely would not attend.   For those who said that they likely would attend, there would be 159 people (classmates and their guests) with 143 attending dinner, 100 attending brunch and 35 people might need hotel accomodations.  (Note, we received one more reply via US mail after the flier we made was finalized.)

Because of these questionnaire results, we decided that there was definitely sufficient interest in the 55th reunion!

Committee Meetings

The initial committee meeting was May 24.   We discussed the options for the reunion and suggested potential locations.   Prior to the meeting, some contacts were made with potential locations, so there was a reasonable idea of cost.   Following the initial meeting, the Co-Chairs met with the catering managers at two of the possible locations so we could get specific cost information.

The second committee meeting was June 27. The decision was made to contract with the Elks Club of San Mateo for the reunion.   We were impressed with the catering manager's personal attention to detail and the flexibility in planning all aspects of the reunion events.   In comparison to other hotel and restaurants for such an event, the prices were very fair and reasonable.  The Elks Club also offers easy access to ample parking with NO stairs.

All things considered, the committee agreed that the Elks Club offers what our class needs to have a great Reunion!   Thus, the committee decided to initiate reservations beginning March 1, 2010.   Watch for detailed information in late February 2010.
